Getting to Lausanne
You can either fly in to Geneva or Zürich. Geneva is closer. From Geneva
airport, there are at least 3 direct trains for Lausanne every hour at h.+09,
h.+21, h. and +35. The fastest leaves at h.+21 and takes 43 minutes. The other
trains take 50 minutes. From Zürich airport there are at least 2 trains for
Lausanne every hour at h.+13 and h.+43. The fastest leaves at h.+13 and it
takes 2:41 between the airport and Lausanne. For comprehensive information
please check the web site of the Swiss railways at
http://www.rail.ch/index_e.htm.
Getting to EPFL
A metro station is located just in front of the main train station in
Lausanne. Take the metro M1 uphill, in direction "Centre-Ville", until the end
of the line ("Flon"). There, transfer to what is called the TSOL (departures
every 10 minutes), with the same ticket. Get off at the stop named "EPFL". EPFL
is located on a large campus outside of Lausanne. The trip from the railway
station to EPFL will take approx. 30 minutes.
Please be careful when you buy your ticket for the metro: You need the exact
amount in Swiss Francs as the wending machine does not return change. The price
for the ticket is CHF 2.40,-
From the EPFL TSOL stop to the workshop
The workshop will be in room ELA2 at EPFL. See
http://plan.epfl.ch/?room=ELA2.
A plan of the EPFL campus is avaialble at http://map.epfl.ch/.
A short description of the way to the ELA2:
- get off TSOL and take the exit in the direction you arrived
(go down and then turn left underneath the rails)
- go up the stairs and you'll be between 2 large buildings
- go straight ahead until you see EPFL's large main square to the *left*!
- follow "La Diagonale" (guess why it is called that way :-) slightly to the right
- after 30m you'll see a large sculpture to the left
- enter the building after the sculpture to the left
- go down the stairs and you'll see ELA2
Equipment
A projector to connect your laptop to is available.
Internet access
We will provide unlimited campus wide wireless access to the Internet. You'll
need a WLAN card and a web browser. We will provide you with the necessary
access credentials at the workshop.
It is *NOT* possible to provide Internet access via Ethernet (cable).
You *MUST* bring a WLAN card if you want to have Internet access.
